Özet:
ABDULSALAM, W. The Relationship of The Bone Void Area Parameter to Other Conventional Parameters: Confirmed by Mechanical Testing.Van Yüzüncü Yıl University, Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Doctorate Thesis, Van, 2023. The analysis of maxillary and mandibular bones’ structures through the utilization of radiological imaging techniques holds significant importance within the field of dentistry. In addition to the two-dimensional radiography techniques, three-dimensional imaging technologies can also be employed for this purpose. Cone beam computed tomography, a commonly employed imaging technique in dental offices, and micro-computed tomography (micro-CT), a more advanced imaging modality, are both of great value in medical and dental procedures and research. This study involved the evaluation of 30 sheep mandible samples in terms of microarchitecture using two imaging methods: cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), and micro-computed tomography (μCT). The evaluation of bone microarchitecture involved the utilization of various parameters, including Bone Surface (BS), Bone Volume (BV), Total Volume (TV), BS/TV ratio, BV/TV ratio, Fractal Dimension (FD), Degree of Anisotropy (DA), Structure Model Index (SMI), Trabecular Thickness (Tb/Th), Trabecular Separation (Tb/Sp), Connectivity Density (Con. Dens.), and the new parameter void space (VS). Subsequently, the bone samples that were evaluated underwent a mechanical compression test. Linear and multiple stepwise regression analyses were conducted to assess the potential correlation between the compressive strength values and the microstructure parameters derived from the test. Significant statistical models were achieved for every imaging technique regarding the void space. Furthermore, a Bland and Altman analysis was conducted to assess the efficacy of using CBCT and μCT imaging techniques for evaluating common microstructural parameters in comparison to the novel parameter, as a potential alternative to the standard parameters' method. Consequently, the standard parameter method, commonly employed in the medical and dental fields to assess micro-structures of various bones, was observed to have less statistical significance as opposed to the void space parameter method. This finding indicates that the void space parameter method yielded highly statistically significant results in both cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) and micro-computed tomography (μCT).
